Jaskaran Sing Sarao For State Senate, District 41

"After months of doorbelling, the most common question I get is: Why run as a Republican? The answer is simple: I must. Rising crime, soaring costs, and declining schools are the result of failed Democratic policies. Incumbent Lisa Wellman, spent eight years weakening education with digital curricula, replacing teachers with iPads, supporting soft-on-crime policies, and imposing unnecessary tax burdens. I’m Jaskaran Singh Sarao, a father of two public school students with 20 years in technology and community service. I’m running to reverse harmful policies with practical, data-driven solutions as a pro-choice centrist, guided by my Sikh values in equality and selfless service.

JASKARAN
SINGH SARAO

MEET

SENATE CANDIDATE (R)
41st LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

Jaskaran Singh Sarao is a dedicated community leader with 20 years of experience in technology and community services. He is a loving husband and father of two teenage boys attending Bellevue public schools, and he has been happily married to his high school sweetheart, Manpreet Sarao, for 17 years. Jaskaran became a proud naturalized U.S. citizen last December and deeply values this privilege.

Jaskaran has a strong commitment to serving his community. He has chaired the Bellevue Human Services Commission since 2019, coached Let Me Run from 2019 to 2021, and initiated 5K runs and July 4th celebrations as the Northwood Village President from 2016 to 2019. Additionally, Jaskaran has been a dedicated Scout leader since 2018, a swim team official at Norwood Pool since 2016, and has actively served meals at the Congregation for the Homeless through the Sikh Center of Seattle since 2016. He has also been advocating for Mom-and-Pop landlords who are struggling to collect rent from squatters to pay their bills and property taxes.

WASHINGTON IS FACING CHALLENGES,
JASKARAN HAS SOLUTIONS.

Public Safety

  • 1st retail theft rate in the nation

  • 2nd highest property crime rate in the nation

  • 3rd in motor vehicle theft

  • Washington has the lowest police staffing per capita in the nation

  • The homicide rate in Washington has surged by 96% since 2019

Senator Lisa Wellman voted against police pursuits, reduced sentences for criminals who committed gun violence, robberies like carjacking, along with policies that restricted police response.

Jaskaran will reverse these harmful public safety policies and restore law and order.

Education

  • 60,000 students have left public schools since 2020

  • A 43% increase in homeschooling in Washington

  • 39% of students meet math standards and 51% meet reading standards

  • 30% of Bellevue and 22% of Mercer Island students are enrolled in private schools

Under Senator Lisa Wellman’s leadership, spending per student has doubled, but test scores have plummeted. Despite this, Senator Wellman has sponsored bills to reduce teacher instructional hours, increase screen time, and has not supported limiting cell phone use in schools.

With two children in Bellevue public schools, Jaskaran will increase teacher instructional time, prioritize paraeducator support over screen time, and support a statewide cell phone restriction policy.

Affordability

  • 3rd highest gas prices competing with California

  • 4th highest grocery prices driven by gas price

  • 25% increase in auto insurance since last year driven by crime rate

  • Tax revenue more than doubled since 2014

Senator Lisa Wellman voted for capital gains, carbon, and long-term care payroll taxes despite a $15 billion tax surplus in 2022 and backed natural gas ban and triple property tax cap.

Jaskaran will reduce tax burdens, oppose unnecessary taxes, ensure transparency and efficiency in spending, and promote policies that lower the cost of living.

Housing

  • 3,400 rental properties lost in 2021 in Seattle

  • 2,200+ unresolved eviction cases have left homeowners and tenants in limbo

  • Seattle‘s rent is 43.4% higher than national average

Senator Lisa Wellman supports policies that undermine homeowner rights, create loopholes for squatters, divert resources away from those in need, reduce rental inventory and increase rental costs.

Jaskaran will find balanced solutions to increase rental inventory, lowering rental prices and protect the rights of homeowners and their tenants.
